Mission
In our day care center, each child as an individual is the focus. We strive for a holistic and open education.
Philosophy
The day care center KIKRI ETH Zentrum (KIKRI) is an educational institution in which qualified staff nurtures and supports children’s development. It complements the education within families and provides a stimulating learning environment for the children. Our aim is to enable children gradually to direct their own life in a self-reliant and socially responsible manner. Children are supported in their development holistically, taking into account their individual development and learning progress.
The following key elements take a central role in our daily care:
Our image of the child
Each child is unique. It is an independent individual with strengths and weaknesses, with individual needs, feelings, and experiences. It is its own “master builder” who carries an inner “blueprint” and develops at its own pace.
Security and emotional attention
Children need a positive social climate and can only develop well and discover the world with interest and curiosity when they feel emotionally safe and secure. Therefore, it is essential for us to pay attention to each child, carefully and sensitively, and to acknowledge and value each child unconditionally.
Educational opportunities and stimulations
Children are naturally curious and want to explore and understand the world with all their senses. They are natural explorers, and their curiosity is the engine of their learning processes. They get to know themselves and the world best through independent exploration and experience. Our child care teachers support the educational process of the children by a providing a stimulating learning environment.
Peer relations
Children need regular and continuous relations to other children. They need the opportunity to make contact, to gain experiences, and to interact. Our day care pays close attention to these basic needs.

Collaboration with parents
Mothers and fathers as well as other family members are welcome in KIKRI. To facilitate the children’s regular transitions between being in the family and in the day care center, we strive for a mutually respectful, open, and transparent partnership among parents and day care teachers. The parents remain the central people a child relates to and the experts for how the child is at home. On the other hand, we experience each child in their day care group.
There are opportunities to exchange information among day care staff and parents during parents’ evenings, regular parent-teacher conferences, daily during drop-off or pick up, but also at parties and the annual camp weekend. Also the parents’ volunteer work at KIKRI, which is part of the KIKRI concept, offers a platform for interaction.
